Gain Does Not Equal Godliness

Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 1 Timothy 6:5

There is a teaching that being a good Christian means everything is going to go your way and you will be financially, professionally, and personally successful. It's hogwash. Boloney. Garbage. And several other metaphors that you can fill in on your own. God never promised that things would always go well for you if you were a good Christian. He didn't say that being successful was a sign of spiritual strength, nor that struggles were a sign of spirtual weakness. Gain and godliness have little to nothing to do with one another. God blesses or does not bless as He wills, not as we deserve--we all deserve nothing short of Hell. If things aren't going your way, don't fall into the trap of thinking it's because you're a bad Christian! (Inversely, if things ARE falling for you, don't assume you've reached some higher spiritual plateau.) God promised to be sufficient and to supply your needs; He never promised wealth and great success. Strive to be everything you can...then be content with what God gives you. After all, He has both infinite wisdom and your best interests at heart. He'll do the right thing.
